I'd always hoped "Red Rain" would have some deep inner meaning, much as many of the songs on his earlier work. No hidden messages there, except for "Red Rain" which seemed like more of a continuation of his earlier style. The songs on "So" were pretty self-explanatory. You had to dig a little to figure them out. They were meaningful, for the most part, but it wasn't always obvious what he was intending to say. Gabriel's first four albums required a little homework to decipher the meaning of his lyrics. I'm aware it's a favorite for many of his fans, but still have a few questions. It's an impeccably produced album, and his best selling album to date.
